100 Reasons Season Five was Not a Waste

Hey, hey, hey!

How are things???!!!

You know, you guys know me, and you know that I’m an optimist. So sue me.

Well, actually…don’t, because that would be bad. Of course, something good could come of it, so… hahaha.

On second thought… just don’t sue me.

But I also hope that you know that if I’m upset with something, or if I have an issue with how something was done, that I’m not afraid to say it. Having said that, I wanted to take a minute or two and kind of combat some of the negativity surrounding the season five finale. I’ll give my complete thoughts when I officially review that ep here on the site, and the ep wasn’t perfect. Season Five as a whole wasn’t perfect, but I still think there are some parts to celebrate.

Let me also quickly say that this site is still and will always be spoiler free.  Also, this post is intended to be a celebration of season five and is not really a place for negativity. There are plenty of other forums out there where those kinds of expressions are encouraged. I’m not going to delete anyone’s comments or anything…I’m just saying…the point of this post is to talk about what we LIKED about season five, and that is all.

I thought long and hard and polled a few BONES pals, Lauren, Mary, Steph and my sister Elizabeth for 100 ways season five of BONES did not suck. Here’s what we came up with. Feel free to chime in with more in the comments. Please do NOT talk about any season six speculation.

I still plan to re-watch and add reviews for the rest of season five, and like I mentioned in the 100^th review, I’ll do those in the few days leading up to the season six premiere.

 Here we go, in no particular order:

1. Cyndi Lauper’s Fearless.  A fantastic song about B&B.
2. Caroline took Booth under her wing more than ever, and she defends the squints in trial!
3. Angela and Hodgins got married.
4. Cam and Dr. Paul! “You look beautiful embarrassed.”
5. Sweets and Daisy broke up (I hope. I so hope so).
6. Pops getting Jiggy with it.
7. Brennan looking beautiful in her scuba suit
8. Brennan let Booth show her about plumbing (pipes, not diapers, haha).
9. Booth intimidates Perry.
10. “It’s like sex camp.”                       “There’s a sex camp?”
11. Brennan insisting on Booth letting her take his shirt off, so it doesn’t compromise the evidence.
12. Booth grew a beard.
13. Booth shaved his beard.
14. Booth is a free spirit rogue rebel.
15. Cam and Booth’s friendship develops, as does the Cam and Brennan friendship.
16. Brennan telling Cam she’s been ‘celibate for some time’.
17. Booth talking with Sweets about the cancer survivor’s death.
18. Booth getting asked out by Catherine (mainly because of his smiles, and for the fact that Booth sees that he’s worth being asked.)
19. Brennan ( and others) anonymously donating money for Wendell’s scholarship.
20. The beautiful piano playing by Levi Yoder.
21. Booth’s gray suit (yes, yes…not singular to season five, but still…never a waste in my book!)
22. Brennan thinks the Cocky belt buckle is ‘Boothy’
23. 22??!!!
24. Brennan disses the Pope’s hat.
25. “Just keeping room for the Holy Spirit, that’s all.”
26. Brennan can’t keep her hands off of Booth
27. Parker tells B&B that their working relationship being a barrier to a personal/romantic relationship is “a stupid reason”.
28. Arastoo loses his accent.
29. When Hodgins interrupts B&B in her office, Booth hides the egg right away. It’s theirs!
30. “Wrong-ology; Keep your grubby anthro hands off my psych”
31. Brennan tells Booth she’ll be his hamlet of 800 people or less.
32. Brennan tells Dr. Wyatt, “I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t do to help him” (Booth).
33. “Bones, you are the standard”
34. Hodgins rejecting Angela when she was at the end of her celibacy phase and desperate.
35. “What goes on between us is ours/What goes on between us…that should just be ours.”
36. The Woodchucks.
37. Sweets putting that mock-piano together from the rocks.
38. “Bones, I would do anything for you. I would die for you; I would kill for you.”
39. Chef Gordon Gordon Wyatt and his joie de vivre, ‘grow a set’, ‘hope and patience’, ‘Temperance Brennan…you’re in love with her; you’re building a world around her, a family’ , & ‘the heart chooses what it chooses’.
40. Pops inviting Brennan for grilled cheese and dominoes to learn how to kick Booth’s ass.
41. Vincent Nigel Murray. I love him.
42. Brennan wearing a St. Christopher’s medal (if she indeed is. I can’t see well enough to know for sure, but I want it to be true!)
43. Seeing original Zack in the 100^th ep, and the way he calls Booth stupid. AND the first experiment!
44. Brennan’s “I prefer good boys.”
45. B&B kiss in the rain.
46. “You’ve got a pair of steel ovaries”
47. Thirty, or forty, or fifty years. I loved Booth admitting what he wants.
48. Mr. Buxley. He appreciated and cared about Brennan in a really tough point in her life.

50. This amazingness.
51. “You know, I won’t say anything about the scream if you don’t say anything about the gun.”/ “Those terms are satisfactory”
52. Booth and Brennan laying on the top of the SUV talking about nice non-probing anthropologist aliens.
53. Booth shooting his way into the Jeffersonian for his people.

55. Hodgins tells Angela he’s her guy.
56. The Cam & Hodgins friendship.

58. Brennan’s anxiety about Booth’s reaction to Padme, specifically that it negates the way  she worked things out with Max, based on his encouragement.
59. Brennan kicking Jared under the table, definitely meant for Booth

97. We see the first moment Booth ever saw Brennan. EVER!
98. The slow dance to Seal.  
99. Booth telling Sweets he’s better off without Daisy.
100. This conversation:

“I need to ask you some things.”

“Are you going to ask me about God and the devil?”

“Yes.”

“You’re going to ask me how God can place such a burden on good people.”

“No, I’m going to ask you how you still believe in a kind God after a case like this.”

“Is my faith shaken?  Yeah, it is.”

“It is?”

“Yeah, I’ll go home tonight, and I’ll lie in bed; I’ll toss and I’ll turn, and I’ll beat myself up. I’ll question everything.”

“Will you get your faith back?”

“Always have in the past.”

“So, you have faith that you will retain your faith….why?”

“Because, Bones…the sun’ll come up. Tomorrow’s a new day.”

“I know that feeling.”

“Really?”

“Mmhmmm…”

“You know what it feels like to get your faith back?”

“When I see effects, and I’m unable to discern the cause, my faith in reason and consequences is shaken.”

“Then what happens?”

“Two + Two = Four. I put sugar in my coffee and it tastes sweet. The sun comes up because the world turns. These things are beautiful to me. There are mysteries I will never understand,  but everywhere I look, I see proof that for every effect, there is a corresponding cause. Even if I can’t see it. I find that reassuring.”

“ Life is good again.”

“Life is very good.” 

“Yes it is.”
